Rear quarter light replacement

Post by gummidge999 »

For all you experts out there I have just picked up a second hand diver side rear quarter light for 35 squids cos the rubber seal is knackered on mine and the local Pug dealership want 135 plus labour ( whatever that's going to add to the bill) to fit a new one. Any way I'm not averse to doing the odd job myself but as this car is new to me was wondering whether you think it can be done following the Haynes manual route or should I steer clear & hand it over to a prof??????

Not seen the Haynes manual version, but it's quite straightforward. Post here if you need help.
Cheers Col.

What sort of an idiot would sell you a rear window as cheaply as that?!? :P

It came out easily enough:
You just undo the 2 x 10mm nuts in front of and below the centre of each rear seat and pull the entire bench out.
Then undo the 2 x 10mm nuts that hold the bottom of the RHS seat-back in place, pull the bottom out, and push the entire seat-back upwards.
Now undo the lower bolt of the right rear seatbelt.
I can't remember if you need to undo the lower bolt of the right front seatbelt too.
Remove the retaining peg (pull the middle bit of it out first) and then the right rear trim panel is effectively loose.
You should just be able to unclip it, although be careful because the clips are a bit fragile.
I think I pulled the top bit upwards first.
Now you should have access to the inside of the right rear quarter, and the motor and regulator mechanism.
You should be able to unbolt the window from the mechanism and simply pull it out the top.

A quarter light isn't actually a rear light - it IS a rear window (and it was me that he bought it off on eBay)!

Whoops! Never mind, no harm done.

In fact I thought it was only old fogies like me that would remember quarter lights which were a car window consisting of a small pivoted glass vent in the door of a car. The last car of mine that had them was a 1966 Singer Vogue.

I wouldn't have called the rear windows on the 206cc quarter lights, but I know what was meant by the term.

Ha Ha Ha Ha !! Smallish world. Thanks a bundle though Enright not just for the fair bay deal but also for the info in this thread. And Grandadmonkey I'm a fogie myself and still work in old money (text speak is beyond me) hence harking back to the quarterlights in my old Ford Anglia (HAT 105D) short term memory going though :-).

Incidentally Enright got a slight tear in the seal just above the drivers door. I don't think the previous owner knew how important it was to keep them conditioned. Will be interested in the ones from yours, if they come off easily that is.

Cheers guys I'm sure we'll talk again.

P.S. I love my 206, I love Ebay and I love this site.

I would normally think of a quarterlight as being a window next to the main window that DOESN'T open, like the ones you often see behind rear windows, but I guess now we're getting into the world of nit-picking.

Hope you got the tracking info Graham - it took me a day or two to find a box decent enough to take the window, so I was only able to despatch it on Friday. Hope it arrives intact too!

I'm a bit baffled by the talk of a rubber seal. I know of the sealing strip that runs down the rear window next to where it meets with the front one, and I'm pretty sure it's intact, but it seemed quite tough and hard to me, so I don't know how you might tear it.

Quarter lights can be movable or non-movable so we are all right

Didn't need tracking got it today thanks, all intact due to your padded pillows will fit it tomorrow, weather permitting.

Regards the 'seal/trim' it's the one running up the 'A' post and meets the one at the roof outer edge.

Brilliant - I'm SO pleased that it got there in one piece rather than hundreds, knowing how "careful" carrier companies can be... :box:
Oh and thanks for the positive feedback too.
If you can get the old one out intact from my sketchy instructions above, then you can get the new one in.
