Number Plate Lights

Post by gazza82 »

what idiot designed those rear plate lights and making them impossible to remove?

both bulbs had gone so thinking 5 min job ...

neither cover would come off and so trying not to break them decided to take fitting out. three times as difficult as the htch back. turns out one was already broken ...

So swapped that one with one from hatchback.

Anyone got an unbroken pair they want to sell??

I replaced my plate lights for LEDs.
This was a 5 min job :O.
(Used a screwdriver to pop the lenses out)

Did they got stuck or sticky maybe?

I think on the cc they were previously broken ... one definitely had traces of evostik and the other fell out with a piece of manky card ...

So both replaced with the ones off the hatchback and a new pair on order along with two pairs of LED bulbs ... which I hope last longer than the side ones I fitted to the front of the CC where one failed after about four months ... went back to standard W5W bulbs as MOTs are starting to clamp down on bulbs that are whiter than headlight bulbs ... and I had a stack in the garage from buying pairs of H7s with free W5Ws.

The LED lights are complete electronic circuits.
These PCBs suffer from large temperature diffrences.

In the headlights, mine survived for 3 months.
My plate lights are still perfectly fine, now more then 6 months.

I think the heat of the headlights is fatal for the LED circuits...
Resoldering the LEDs might fix those bulbs maybe...
