Car starts with key but central locking does not work HELP

Please help I bought a 2l hdi w reg 206 2 days ago and was told the key needed a battery. After putting one in the fob just flashes when it's pressed so I have to open each door individually with the key. A mechanic has plugged a computer into it and the central locking worked when the BSI was told too by the computer. The mechanic seems to think that the key want re programming or synchronising. I've found a place that will re programme the key for £114 but can't guarantee that the fob will work once done. ANY HELP APPRECIATED

Re-programme the key yourself. Page 69 of the owners manual.

Thanks for reply I've tried above and the key fob just flashes so maybe the key fob has to be re programmed to the car itself.

It's not clear from your posting if the remote is in the key or a seperate fob. Your car is obviously not a 206cc with that year / engine, so the handbook above may not be of much use.

Hi it's not convertible. It's just a 5 door 2.0 hdi 2000 reg

Yes, I realise that it is not a 206cc but the programming procedure should be the same.

Hi all new to forum , just got a 206 hdi 2002 the key doesn't lock the central locking but open it I can only lock all doors via the passenger door, when I try to lock via driver door it doesn't turn ... hope you can help cheers neil
