Hey all,
Got a major problem with the missus 206cc aircon. Had to jump start the car a few weeks back as battery was completely dead, started fine and all worked ok.
Getting it ready for mot, so stuck a new battery on it, just to be safe. Start it straight away only to find battery light is now on and now now aircon at all, not even the panel is working.
I've done a voltage test off the alternator and is only showing 11.6v, so that's dead.
My question is, if the alternator isn't charging, will this stop the aircon from functioning?
I've done a bit of research and found it may be the resistor, so ordered that and replaced it today, still nothing. Checked all fuses.....all ok
It's got to be something simple, but I just can't work it out.....help please
Thanks in advance
Ben

When you changed the battery did you follow the proper reconnection procedure? Just reconnecting can cause more problems.

You don't tell us the car's mileage. Could be just that the alternator is worn out and it needs a new one. It would explain the flat battery in the first place.

And was the a/c working before the battery replacement? In which case I'd be looking at that as the cause.
It could be the gas needs refilling ... don't got to Halfords ... they just stick more in from an aerosol can and don't clean the system out properly ...
Use a proper a/c specialist or reputable garage with the right equipment to vacuum the system, recharge with the specified amount of gas and add oil to the system to keep the compressor in good condition.

Mileage is 80k
I've fitted many battery's before, so can't see how that would have caused the Ac not to work.
New alternator arrived yesterday so will get that fitted asap and see if that solves anything.
One thing I did forget to mention is that the car has sat on the drive for 8 months as needed other parts (couldn't afford them at the time) and was started every 5-6 days.
The Ac, as far as I can remember, came on straight away before, I had only stuck my battery pack on it 2 weeks previous to get it started and moving

And when I say the Ac isn't working, I don't mean you press the button and the condensor doesn't kick in and the air does t get colder. I literally have nothing, not even the panel lights up.
I've checked the wires going into it and there seems to be no power to any of the wires, which suggests to me a fuse, but every diagram or image I look at, seems completely different to how either of the fuse boxes are laid out
