Air intake/filter.
Been dealing with e few things on the car, so not been online for a while. One thing in particular was a wet air filter. After looking through forum history & the haynes manual, I now know the air intake is in a problematic place. It's virtually under the front bumper. Before I knew this, I just replaced the air filter. I still thought this was a bad place for the intake though. Then I jet washed the car. THE outside-bonnet closed. Drove it back onto the drive. Couple of days ago, I was checking stuff out & the filter was wet again & the chamber below it was flooded! This is where I could need some feedback. I opted for a cone filter-some may call it an induction kit-but it is just a cone filter which fits onto the existing main intake pipe. As some may know, this means no need for the production air box & the lower chamber etc. Are there any real probs with this? I can't really see a need to re-tune or re-map anything,as it's just going to be more direct air flow. Its not situated near any heat source. It sits just left of the battery, as you look into the engine bay & is several inches from the rad. Your advice greatly needed. Thanks

Our car is still original. I DO know that you need to be very careful when putting the "lid" on the original air filter housing. If you get it wrong and/or don't tighten the screws properly then when driving in wet weather water can force its way in through the small gap that is left.
I just take great care when refitting the lid and I've never had a problem.

They increase induction noise and can mess up the sensors as the air will be warmer if it's taken from the engine bay regardless if where it sits unless you plum in a pipe from a cold air source. I've heard lots of conflicting reports about cones ... you can leave it and see what happens. Monitor the fuel consumption carefully.oggy30 wrote: I opted for a cone filter-some may call it an induction kit-but it is just a cone filter which fits onto the existing main intake pipe. I'd personally keep the existing air filter system and fit a better filter ..
