Hunting Idle Issues - 2.0 Y Reg

Post by Lankysod07 »

Hey Guys,

Just bought a 206cc, its a 2001 (Y reg) 2.0L.

It appears to have a very small hunting idle issue only when the car is stopped, no issues when moving.
Its not very hunting like crazy going up and down like a mad man, just very slightly.. any ideas on where to start troubleshooting?

I also have what sounds like a rubbing sound coming from the o/s of the engine near the belts....possible aux belt replacement needed or tension sorted?

One other thing is I bought some TSW alloys with Falken tyres to replace the ditch finders on currently, however, I went to fit the wheels and noticed the original wheel Nuts are way to big and don't fit in the holes in the alloy wheels... the current wheel nuts have a flat base with a washer on, are these OEM?

Couple of other small issues such as clock in the dash not working, or bulbs are gone...will change fuse and bulb later. Also mileage LCD strip is lit up so I know its not the bulb but not showing actual mileage. I take it from what Ive read already this would be due to the soldier come away from the ribbon cable inside the cluster?

I do apologize if im asking noob questions, not much experience with french cars, Ive always had 1998 Celica's and Prelude's. These Peugeot are nothing like Jap cars!

Cheers Brandon 8)

Anyways nice to meet you all!

Welcome!

hunting: might just need a good service and new plugs but the only real way to check is on a diagnostic: 2001 will need PP2000.

Check the belts as it could be the cam belt rubbing behind the cam covers. What's the mileage as the belts need to be changed every 80000 or 10 years .. but only a "silly-billy" would leave them that long.

Those are OEM wheel nuts .. the flat washer doesn't come off either.

There are four bulbs in the multi functional display ... all capless. But it could also be the circuitry on the boards has come adrift and needs re-soldering. It's not a ribbon cable but the pins/sockets that join the two boards at 90 degrees. On 206 remember that there are TWO types of electrics: yours has the system known as pre-mux, newer cars after 2002, multiplex. The two are not interchangable.

Have fun!
