This maybe a strange question

Post by Sylvester »

Hi,

Well this may sound odd, however whilst out at the weekend with a boot full of shopping, I noticed a rubbing sound coming from the N/S/R wheel like the wheel was catching the wing liner. This only occurred when bearing right on a bend, I checked all round the wheel arches and wheels and there is no evidence of friction anywhere.

I have the factory 16 inch wheels fitted all wheel nuts a tight and no obvious play in the rear bushes or linkages. The springs look ok dampers look ok too no leaks and no excessive bouncing if you bounce the back end, I have also loaded the car with 4 large rugby players to check the clearance and it settles but not too low. Has anyone else experienced this?

Does sound like an axle beam bearing worn. It could possibly be worn brake pads.

Depends how easily it comes apart really. Simple enough job but can be stubborn to get apart.

Make sure there is movement in the bearings before taking the plunge. Just eliminate things like handbrake cables, brake hoses, etc aren't the culprit (and recheck there is nothing caught in the brake pads or disc dust shields)
Cheers Col.
