Hello All,
Firstly, thank you for this forum. It is great!!!!
Secondly, I went out this week and bought my wife a 206cc convertable (2003) black with red leather seats. This has been planned for some 23 years now. Don't rush me :-)
It has a known automatic gearbox fault. I'm a bit of a mechanic with and electronics background.
I bought a code reader yesterday to reset and check the electronics.
Now dimensions to the problem: when selecting gears the gear position indicator on the dash does not change. Also when pushing the snow and * buttons near the gear lever the indicators do not light.
Does this effect the error codes and limp home modes?
Fault codes are: U1109 and $10
I would appreciate any advice given and will always try and help others where possible.
Regards,
Dean

Might just be a bad connection in the connecting plug. Also try and blow out the unit with an airline. Bits of food or debris can get in and cause problems.
Have you got fault codes for the ABS and AP faults?

Ok. I pulled out the plastic centre console. Someone had cut the red wire going to the auto selector and run an aftermarket red wire up underneath the glovebox, presumably to the park lock relay ( haven't looked at that yet). When the aftermarket wire is disconnected, I can not get it out of park with the foot on the brake. When reconnected all is good but still no response on the gear select indicator on the dash.Capncol wrote:Comms failure. Gear selector lever prob faulty
So I will strip down the auto gear selector box and give it a bit of a cleanup as per the next post down.

I had an abs fault at ignition on this morning (engine not running) but it self cleared and has not come back today.
Question: were is the electrical connection for the gear select. The one in the photo seems to be only for the snow and sports modes?

Re: Automatic gearbox fault (Brisbane Australia)
Another part of the puzzle;
Had the "put in park" alarm come up. Dash shows it's in park but gear lever was in neutral.
After checking for 12 volts on both sides of the fuses below the steering wheel the gear position indicator went into R but stayed there regardless of the gear lever position
Walked away for ten minutes and back to P position.
Hope this info helps a bit.

Main one is at gearbox ECU. I'll see what I can dig up later

I did some more chasing. The automatic gearbox Ecu is on the battery box at the back. The next connection is down on the auto itself underneath the battery box. Unfortunately both connectors showed no signs of trouble. Next step is the multi function gear selector switch. Ill meter out the contacts and see if they ring true.

Re: Automatic gearbox fault (Brisbane Australia)
What is the correlation between the auto Ecu/multifunction gear selection switch on the gearbox/ and the gear select indicator on the dash?
When I select reverse the indicator still shows park but the reversing light comes on.

Re: Automatic gearbox fault (Brisbane Australia)
Not had a lot to do with PSA autos but believe later gear selector is can bus like the Merc ones, and are prone to debris getting in them. Diagnostic tool live data should confirm problems. Can you verify there is no push/ pull mechanical cable?
Cheers Col.

Re: Automatic gearbox fault (Brisbane Australia)
I can confirm there is a cable and the multifunction gear switch sits under the lever as it goes into the box.
