on the new toy (206cc 05 2 litre Allure) someone has replaced the RD3 head unit with a Kenwood head unit.
Not done too bad a job of the wiring etc but they didn't invest in steering stalk patch leads so I have no remote controls.
The cheapest option is simply to swap back to the RD3 unit (ebay have them VIN coded for about £40)
However I don't know if the RD3 will require a security cage?
can anyone tell me? does the RD3 need a cage or does it just clip in once the kenwood cage is removed?

Re: Stereo retro fit
Ours didn't have a cage but it was the earlier RD1 (pre-mux).
The cage/mount came with the new Sony unit ..
Even when you get the RD3 matched to the VIN you might still have to update it after fitting. My dealer fitted our RD3 as a replacement for the radio/cassette that was originally fitted as part of the deal (HDi was 1 year old when I bought it). But afterwards I couldn't get LW or an extra pair of rear speakers to work ... I lived with that for a few years then one day got fed up with it .. I had to set up the radio with PP2000 ...
