Hazard warning light problem
Hi guys plz help. I have caused this problem i had read on the internet i could cut the grey wire under the hazard switch to get a live feed for my new stereo. Yes wish i had not done that now!. After cutting it was showing a 12v feed on my volt meter but after taking a feed off and putting to my stereo no hazard lights. No power from grey lead either i thought blown fuse. But all fuses under dash and in engine comp ok. I put on pp2000 and it just states hazard not active. My mind moved too maybe the relay but indicators are working fine!!! I also disconnected battery as per instruction for bsi reset.Anyone any ideas ???

Re: Hazard warning light problem
I have checked in the SEDRE, but it is difficult to be sure, because there are many options to be selected for the correct fit, mainly radio and alarm. There is definitely a difference in the hazard warning switch wiring depending whether the alarm option is present or not.
I have the impression that wire colours are unreliable in Peugeot. What matters is the wire number and, of course, what it is connected to. It is noticeable that the SEDRE does not document wire colours, only the colour of connectors.
If you want to let me have the last eight digits of your VIN, I can look up the correct diagrams for your car. If you could also determine the wire number, or the pin number on the hazard switch connector, it may be possible to be more helpful as to the effect of the wire you cut.
In any event, if you reconnect the wire as before, and do another BSI reboot, I would expect normal service to be resumed, provided the wire was just a power supply lead. However, if it is a wire from a semiconductor logic unit, the load may have damaged the unit.

Re: Hazard warning light problem
Hi ian it is wire number 6. I have ordered a new hazard switch to rule that out. These peugeots are very sensitive when messing with the electrics .i am no expert by any means but i managed a live wire work around from the cars stereo wireing.the yellow wire twisted with the oem red wiring and yellow from oem.all 3 together and stereo keeps its memory. But a neibour just came in and said my lights were on. Which they were but not switched on at the stalk. All went ok when i switched ign on. But will have to part wires again if more weird stuff happens.

Re: Hazard warning light problem
Hi Jim,
The wire on terminal No 6 is connected to one of the pushbuttons. When the button is pressed, it connects that wire to earth, so it is clearly not a "legitimate" 12V supply. It connects to semiconductor logic in the instrument panel. Unfortunately, the SEDRE gives no greater detail, as the panel is a non-repairable item as far as Peugeot are concerned. There are companies which do repair them, e.g. http://shop.bba-reman.com/shop/parts/in ... ter-repair
Just a guess, but it is possible that the advice you followed only applies to early 206s which are not multiplexed.
EDIT - thinking about it, it is not obvious how a wire which is normally connected to earth should cause damage when connected to the radio keep-alive terminal.

cheers ian,,once i get new switch see if that works, had to go and undo all the wiring on the radio my front lights kept coming on by them self. only option is to remove glove box drill through fire wall to get a 12v feed from battery too much hassle i will just retune radio each time i am in it,, no more cutting wires for me much more and i would have herbie on my hands lol thanks for taking the time to help.

Fair enough, but if you change your mind, the place to get permanent 12V in the passenger compartment is from the small green connector on the BSI - its the one between the slanting green and the small black, in line with FS1, numbered 2VGR.
Either pin (1 or 2) is fed from a superfuse in the engine compartment fusebox, and is always live.

You will probably find a rubber/plastic grommetted hole somewhere under the screen if you look .. it might be tucked up high under the screen valance though! Most cars have wiring passing through the firewall and you should be able to push a new/extra wire through.jimthorley wrote:cheers ian,,once i get new switch see if that works, had to go and undo all the wiring on the radio my front lights kept coming on by them self. only option is to remove glove box drill through fire wall to get a 12v feed from battery too much hassle i will just retune radio each time i am in it,, no more cutting wires for me much more and i would have herbie on my hands lol thanks for taking the time to help.
On our 206CC we were supplied with an extra small loom that fitted between the Pug wiring block and the radio. It had two switchable wires and all I had to do it swap those to maintain the memory (Sony headunit). Pre-MUX car though.

Re: Hazard warning light problem
UPDATE
hazard lights fixed. i bought a 2nd hand switch from ebay and hey presto. So my switch must have blown when taking a feed off wire number 6 and your spot on ian colour means nothing in a 206.I will have a look for that feed on the bsi cheers.. and gazza cheers my last stereo i put in was a single socket to back of stereo and swapped yellow onto red on the iso loom and had memory for stereo, but this new stereo has 2 sockets so fits straight on to car looms but i bought a 2 socket iso loom so i could cut that instead of car wiring but although i put red onto yellow no joy,i did notice the loom wiring colour does not match colours on car wires. so i took a feed straight onto yellow car wire and thats when headlights started coming on all by them self. so i will try this fix ian has suggested, and having to go through the fire wall just to much hassle there is a cover for existing wires but a bugger to get too,
thanks for all the help guys

Re: Hazard warning light problem
Jim, I still don't understand how that could result in overcurrent through the switch - there must have been a voltage spike. At least it didn't blow the instrument panel, as I had feared.
Don't forget the correct drill for disconnecting the battery before unplugging the connector at the BSI.

Yes i must have touched the radio with the feed i had taken and must have killed the hazard button .i will attempt taking the live via your instructions from bsi. Yes aware of battery procdure done it a couple of times last week. Will post once i get time to try out your instructions. Thanks again
