New member on the Isle of Man
I've just acquired this 2002 1.6 206cc, love it, but a couple of faults I need to rectify. First, the windscreen wipers don't - at all! I've checked the fuse which is fine, any suggestions for next steps? This is Britain, so I think I'll need the wipers sooner than later. Next is the pool of water inn the passenger footwell. The car had been sitting for a few months, so I think with the torrential rain and storm force winds may have been the cause - I'll give it a while being used and see where we go, I have soaked up the water with old towels.

Hi and welcome,
I can't comment on your wiper issues but as for the leak, the first thing I would do is to buy a tube of silicone grease and treat all the roof rubber seals to it.Just drop the roof and then open the boot and you can more or less easily get to all the rubber seals.
Only use silicone grease and don't be tempted to use anything else as petroleum based grease will eventually degrade the seals.
My car suffered a small roof leak when I first bought it and after inspecting the seals they felt dry and not very supple.Silicone grease soon remedied it and it's not leaked since.
I treat mine about twice a year as it seems to stick around for quite a while.
I hope this is useful info and wish you well,
Kind Regards,
Johnny

Silicone grease is useful, but I have found the best treatment for rubber seals is Auto-Glym Vinyl and Rubber Care. I got mine from Halfords.
Wipers problem can be caused by a stalk issue, or the unit the stalk plugs into (I forget the name). You can play parts roulette or take it to a competent auto electrician.

I will give the Auto-Glym Vinyl and Rubber Care a try out when I run out of Silicone grease.
Thanks for the tip IanL

Also, the problem could be the wiper motor either being seized or the brushes worn. A quick check is to unplug the motor and supply 12V direct to the socket.IanL wrote: Fri Apr 17, 2026 4:52 pm Wipers problem can be caused by a stalk issue, or the unit the stalk plugs into (I forget the name).
