One of my mates pointed out that fact that your car can fail an MOT for not having a spare wheel...anybody know the score on this subject?

I'll worry about it three years when my first MOT is due!

Hmmm, I thought it was a fail if your spare was bald - but you don't HAVE to have a spare...

Intresting...decided to check it out on the web:

http://www.via.gov.uk/mot/your_vehicle/ ... onents.htm

"Wheels and Tyres"

"Condition, security, tyre size/type and tread depth. Spare tyres are not inspected."

I agree with Pauline, no need to have a spare to pass the MOT test, but if you do have one it has to have a legal tyre. (so take it out before you take it to the garage!!!!!)

ditto with above replies ......

and a manufacturer wouldn't supply a car that was technically illegal if you did need a spare for an MOT.
