Having had a flat on Saturday night that destroyed the tyre - tyre weld not much use, I have decided to get the space saver wheel

Managed to get the wheel from Camden Peugeot in Bedford, but they couldn't tell me the tyre size - not very useful !

Anyway, searching the messages it appears to be 115/70 R 15.

The question is, where to get one from and how much should it be?

I've been quoted between 55 and 60 quid so far, although I've seen on the site that someone paid 40quid.

The first reply is true, you can get a full size tyre for £70. I paid £40 for my Continental space saver, fitted and balanced. Getting a price was not easy. Micheldever Tyres gave me a lower price, just a long way to go. Most tyre shops promised a response, but even when chased failed to deliver. I guess if you have the wheel, your choice is £40 and most of your boot space, or £70 + alloy, with half the space under the screen gone. Also, if you fit an Eagle F1, they are directional, so only 50% chance it is the right side. Still, you can sneak to a tyre shop and get the puncture fixed.

Hi IJR,

Try dealers of other manufacturers who may sell cars with spacesavers.

Try Priory on Ampthill Road, Bedford. As they sell Mazda, Honda, Nissan, Fiat cars etc they might be able to help.

Just looked in my stepdaughters J reg MX5/Eunos grey import and the spacesaver is on a 115/70x14.

Alternatively, get a wheel from a scrappy ..... hopefully with a good tyre. If not, Bedford Budget Tyres (by the railway line as you cross into Kempston from Bedford) do cheap part used tyres ..... just make sure they aren't mud tyres like we ended up with on our last TR7!

Give em a go!

(PS Glad to see Camdens are true to form. Nice people, but not a lot of help! How did you get on with you oil change?)

Hi Eye See

Thanks - I'll give Budget Tyres a try.

Cancelled the oil change - new tyre, space saver wheel + tyre (eventually) was more money than I was planning on spending !! - I'll probably get it done next month - although not at Camden Motors.

Our last TR7 went in July 2001 and our CC went in September 2002. We have neither!

Comparisons? Well, once commented on the forum that the CC should have been British built and called the TR9. At least if it was built by British Leyland, owners would not be surprised when they have problems!

I think some of the union guys from the BL factory in Speke have ended up working for Pug in France! They obviously left BL circa '78 as they didn't move on when production moved onto Canley and then Solihull.

For those not in the know, TR7 production was suspended at Speke due to quality problems put down to sabotage by the unions!

Space saver wheel from Pug is around £22.75. They said the tyre was about another £80!!!

I can get one for £42.42 though. If you're around the Uxbridge area call Gary at STS on 07711146821.
