Hi sorry for posting here but I cant find any forums that are decently active and related to peugeot 405's so if any of you could help me out that would be great.
Basically I have a 405 1992, 1.8 GL. The exhaust sheared off today and to save time and the hassle of repairing it myself I took it to Kwick fit. They quoted me £69 for a new mid section of exhaust. It sheared off just after the kat and before the first box.
However, during the job the guy comes up to me and says has the kat been replaced recently. I said it was about two years ago by the previous owner, I bought the car 2 months ago and have all the receipts. He siad well they have put the wrong kat on and the exhaust will not fit. It is a female fitting and so is the end of the kat so they cant be matched. He said that the car will therefore need a new kat. He quoted me £189 for that plus new exhaust. I said fine but on checking the old receipts found that the kat that the previous owner put on was for a 1.9 car and not a 1.8 as mine is. He alaso put a 1.9 exhaust on. I phoned back kwick fit and said can they check to see if a 1.9 exhaust will fit on and he said he will check but he doubts it.
What I would just like to ask is, does all this sound right or am I being ripped off somewhere. Surely if I have a kat on the car then an exhaust can be found to fit it. The guy said that the exhaust broke in the first place because it was hashed together with the wrong kat
I am gonna see if I can get some money back from the company who put the last kat in but I doubt they will even listen.
Anyway anyone got any thoughts. I would be very grateful for any and im sorry again for hijacking your forum.
Cheers
David

Without seeing it, it's hard to say who's ripping you off. Somebody's not doing/done the job correctly, that's for sure. You could try getting your dealer to have a look and tell you if it's the right cat or not. That's all I can suggest unless you have a mate who knows Peugeots.
