Does the OZ 1.6 have multiplex?

I note in the brochure that the automatic headlights & rain sensing wipers are available on the OZ 2.0 but not the 1.6.

Can someone tell me if this means that the OZ 2.0 is multiplex and the 1.6 is not?

TIA... :?

The easiest way to see if your machine has full multiplexing check behind the panel below your steering wheel, on the upper right hand side is a box which has fuses on it, check the sticker to see if it is a Siemens brand BSI. another way is to see if there is any delay in the switching on and off time of your lights etc, on the multiplex units you have about a 1 second delay for your lights to come off high beam (which is really annoying) you will also find a lot of other posts on this site with other methods of evaluating whether your machine has multiplex wiring.

I think that you will find that you do have multiplex wiring anyway because the aussie spec sheet mentions that the 1.6l version instead of having rain sensing wipers has speed dependant intermittant wipers where the wipers would need to know what speed the car is doing for this to work and the multiplex buses are the cheapest way to get this data as it is certain that your can bus has this data on it already.

It is probably just the fact that the rain sensing wiper unit is worth another $80 to $100. AUD (the price range for the after market standard wired unit available from Farnell components) and they wanted there to be something to entice people to spend another $4k on the 2 litre model apart from the extra engine cubes.

I have endless data on the can/van bus of a technical nature so if you need any specific information let me know and I will see what I can do for you.

Thanks for your response Mick.

My vehicle is still on order aqnd the reason that I've gone for the 1.6 is that I really want automatic.

I've had a read of the other posts on the forum re multiplex and the conclusion that I've come to is that I probably don't really care whether or not I have multiplex. The technology sounds great but with the delay everyone mentions I might just be better off without multiplex.

gaia,
mine is 1.6 auto 2002 and yep its a multiplex...
beside its quite easy to tell, all the button lever has a different feel to it when you use it, its not base on mechanical switches. A dead give away it the fog lamp switch, its a one step momentary switch.
