Hi all,

Always planned to get car lowered. Has anyone asked their dealer to do this?

Is there a way to do it without loosing the warranty to all of the suspension/steering components etc. ?

I'm think 40mm drop max on standard components & 17" alloys is this sensible? I actually like the current ride but for looks would prefer it a tad lower (70mm gap over front wheels is not really what I would have chosen :) ).

Anyone lowered there 1.6s on eibach springs ?? I'd be interested in feedback.

Cheers

My dealer claimed that all warranty is gone, if any lowering is done
Last year when i asked, lowering was forbidden on 307versions, but now with CC:s

Warranty wording in UK certainly implies that if any none standard part is fitted then they are no longer obliged to honour the warranty.

Taken as its written though it would suggest that replacing tyres with non standard (ie. as supplied) tyres would void the warranty.

I believe its not as simple as this though as the oweness is on Peugeot to prove that the fault was caused by the non standard parts being fitted.

I have Eibach springs on the front of my car and have not had a problem with standard 16's, but my car has not been drastically lowered only 35mm approx.

It is the rear you need to get sorted. In my opinion its too soft to the point of being dangerous. I understand if you only have the torsion bars adjusted then the softness increases. So you need stiffer torsion bars and/ or stiffer anti roll bars.

As for warranty. I was told I would loose any warranty regarding suspension issues, but hey when has a car required suspension work in a three year warranty period. Touch wood!

Darth I agree with you in theory re: the suspension issue but my last car (Fiat Stilo Arbarth) needed bushes and linkages repairing within the 6 months I owned it from new.

That said though it would have only been a few quid anyway and if a shocker fails after say 2 years I'm sure peugeot would worm their way out waving the wear and tear clause at me lowered or not :)

Have you any piccies of your car with the Eibach's fitted. I want to have a look how it compares ride height wise with where I want to be.

Cheers

Would appear that my fears were correct. Went to the dealer today who produced a "wear and tear" sheet which shows that anything suspension related after 12 months will be fobbed off as wear and tear anyway.

So the good news for me is one lowered 206CC coming up :) I'm still thinking Eibach.

Also looking into a bodykit (not too subtle though :) )

When you lower your CC... will it then 'rattle' a lot more?

I mean hows the driving? I like it too, but most people don't reccommend it to me?
Thinking about 20-30mm.
Don't know anything about brands. I thought about my normal pug dealer letting it do it. So they can't blame anything on someone else.

How's the driving comparing to standard suspension. Is it still comfortable?
I'm still thinking those 17"s and perhaps (when warranty issues are clear) that lowering 8)

I've had many a lowered car improvements in looks and driving ability.

On the negative side slightly firmer ride in terms of crashing over potholes etc.

I've used everything from Koni to G-Max and would say the better brands (Koni, Eibach, Bilstein, Apex) are worth the extra everytime over the cheaper brands (Spax etc.).

A sensible lowering on standard dampers doesn't seem to cause any much problems. Done over 50,000 miles on 2 x cars with standared dmapers and uprated suspension.

Sorry to disagree, but my car actually lost a rattle after it was lowered. Well more of a clunk really from the rear suspension. Personally I haven’t found any rattles in my CC that haven’t been down to something rolling about in the boot or something silly like that. The noises I get are from the window seals and boot rubbers. I use a mixture of 50/30/20 of washing-up liquid/ water and autoglym rubber care. Applying this after cleaning has sorted out any noise issues. Like I said my car has only been lowered 35mm, but the suspension is much harder due to gti anti roll bars and torsion springs. I was told the handling would have been crap without the GTi suspension. My car was lowered 18 months ago. About 8000 miles since and no problems. Although better wait until after June when the car gets its first real service before I say its OK.

So what is the Stilio Abarth like? My partner and I really like it, but read some poor write up's on it. Saying that, I wouldn’t trust a lot of those magazines. I see Fiat do a GT version, which is the same as the Abarth without the gear paddles. I like the sound of that.

I will try and get some pics together and have them put on the site.

Hi,

re: The Stilo for the money no car can touch it in the way of features, comfort and value. Also real bargains to be had I got a huge discount when I bought mine and there even cheaper now.

Local dealer is knocking them out with leather & 17" alloys for £12,995 new 03 UK cars. (When I bought this was the best I could do on a standard car with metallic).

Downside is huge depreciation mine was UK sourced and had leather, electric heated memory seats, air bag upgrade, xenon lights, a 5yr 100,000 mile warranty with wear and tear and full AA cost me £14,500. At six months 7,500 miles I was offered as low as £7,500 and mostly £9,500 - £10,000 for it!! (Got £12,000 against the CC and £1k discount across the 1.6s + leathers and metallic so pretty happy with that).

As a car it great fun, loved the paddle shift, loved the sat nav and integrated phone, mp3 player was useful, dual zone climate control a god send (as G/F like hotter than me) didn't go wrong much (usually random error messages), no way that the quoted 28.9MPG can be achieved though best I ever got was 26 normally 22-24.

In the end that and no convertible made me get rid (I've had CRX's, MX5's and TVR's for nearly 8 years now and so used to roof off in summer).

This time tried VX220, Elise, MR2 and MX5 (Again) uncertainty over job location in 6 months (possibly public car park) factored in too along with running costs, economy, depreciation and overall CC got it. Personally thought the 1.6 was a better (more involving) drive than the 2 litre and cheaper too so went that way :) Loved the VX220 but probably couldn't live with it everyday though !!

I am trying to convince my partner to get one. Have been looking around and seen a new GT Stilo for 10500pounds New UK registered, but extra for the sunroof.

She is coming over all logical at the moment. Hope I can convince her. It possibly hasn’t helped when I insured her on my car at the start of last month. I knew that was a bad idea.
