Has anyone fitted a new alarm? If so, what do you recommend? Is the standard one Thatcham Cat 1?
Yep, still undecided
??: I know we've discussed Tracker etc before but while that helps, it doesn't solve my whole problem. Thanks - Pauline

Same old thing, being mugged etc blah blah.
Clifford do something called Black Jacks where you type in a secret PIN or the car cuts out 100yds down the road. But don't Cliffords go off all the time? Anyone know of anything similar by another manufacturer?
Another thing I want is automatic locking of the doors milliseconds after I get in...
And is the Peugeot one Microwave?
Only 1 week to go! No not to Xmas (whaaaat!) but to my car (I hope, but still not confirmed). Pauline

Pauline,
A few years I got a new xr3i cab and when I moved to Manchester the insurance refused to insure it without a thatcham one alarm. It cost over £500 for this super dooper alarm, it locked when you got in, you could leave the roof down and nobody could put their arm inside the car. Fantastic!! Six weeks after Christmas some broke into the house luckly whilst we were out ramsacked the house until they gound the car keys which were hidden, loaded my pride and joy with the ususal things and drove off in broad day light. House alarm going off. No one noticed. My best advice is take your keys with you and by a wheel lock. 4 years on the 33 bus, I'm determind not to loose another baby.
happy motoring

Bottom line................
If someone wants to steal your car, they will do it, no matter what alarm you have got on it. Wheel locks can be taken off in seconds by any thief who knows what they are doing. I remember looking at how long it takes theives to break into cars, and i think with the standard peugeot alarm on the 206 it was about 30 seconds, and that was one of the better ones.
Sorry to be so negative, but its the truth.

I have a Clifford Concept 600 Fitted.. Only one "false" Alarm when the tilt/motion sensor went faulty after two weeks..
Clifford had a bad reputation at one time with their Gen 2 & 3 but they are much much more reliable now..

Excellent, I was worried about it going off willy nilly. I spoke to 2 fitters. One said they don't touch Clifford 'cos of that. The other said they only do Clifford 'cos they're excellent and sensitive but the dealer needs to know how to set them up properly... and they assure me they do!
So I've gone for a 500 - with Black Jax (have to type in a secret PIN or it cuts the fuel so might save me a car-jack?) and auto-central locking when it hits 1500 rpm. I might get the anti-tilt thingy later when I - err, I mean Santa - get a bit more money...
Picking my CC up on Friday (woo hoo!) and goes in for Clifford on Saturday.
So thanks to EVERYONE who's helped me and especially to Lyndon ;o) for this excellent site that's made my 6 month wait bearable!!! Pauline

Update:
It went in for one day but took 3 days as "this car has really advanced electronics and it's made it a pig of a job". Thankfully, they got extra staff in Xmas eve until 5pm to finish it, when they officially closed a noon )
So if anyone else is gonna do this, let them know that it's the latest model with 307 switchgear... and be prepared for a wait! Pauline
