Hiya ppl,hope you're having a lovely summer.

I bought an amp today, finally,I got a used RM multichannel 4x160w for about 150£.I hooked it up to my original Clarion HU with a pair of Kenwoods 1768 front speakers and the original ones in the back.
The thing is that the sound really didn't improve that much.Do I have to get a sub to get the final touch to it ?
You could also give me a hint of what kind of speakers to put in the back, prefferably a pair of the right size ... 13cm is it ?

Thanks in advance and keep having a lovely, roofless summer! :D
cheers /C

hi there,
it depends what you are after, most people go for a sub in the boot to give some nice punchy bass.
With regard to changing the rears ... i used some sony components, but to be honest I didn't notice to much of an improvment. The positioning isn't to clever, and once the bass was turned up anyway ..

speaker sizes are :
Front Speaker is : 16.5 cm diameter 5cm depth (top of cover to bas of magnet)
Rear Speaker is : 10cm diameter 4.5cm depth (top of cover to bas of magnet)

These measurments were taken from the speakers off a '02 2lt SE model. Don't know if the earlier ones were any different

I see,I guess the only way to go is to get a sub ..
There aren't any "bassy" speakers to put as rear speakers are there?

The biggest problem with the CC is that the encolsures behind the speakers are way too small to be of any use. Any ICE person will tell yo uthat the enclosure behind a speaker makes a massive difference to the final sound.

its physically impossible to get alot of base from a small speaker. just just wont happen. if you get a sub you will be sorted ;)

What about a good pair of front speakers that gives a bit more powerful bass than my Kenwood 1768's that i've got atm?
I realise you'll never get close to the same effect as a sub gives you,but as it is right now the bass is quite awful.
The thing is I don't know where to put the sub if I get one,is there any space left in the boot with the roof down+a sub?

Cheers

Many people have either built their own (me included) or had one built for them and it will happily sit underneath the roof when down. I also believe there is a company that build enclosures specifically for the CC as well but I can't remember the name right now. However, after getting an amp and suitably sized sub in there, don't expect to be able to pack your golf clubs & several bags of shopping in the boot as well... that's what the back seats are for!

Hey Corpiuos,

I understand what u saying about the boot space, im also quite reserved to put in a sub that literally outrules your boot for ever. Anyway i fitted a realy neet Lightning audio split with amp, and JVC front laoder this weekend and the improvement is realy fantastic. Look it will never be as good as the whole woofer and stuff but let me tell you it still makes a lot of noise and i still can go shoping
