My cc has just completed 9000 miles and the brakes started to squeek - intermitantly at first but now every time the brake is applied they make an awful noise!

Took the car in to Peugeot who claim to have carried out a modification to stop the noise. Needless to say the noise is still there, so after a brief chat with the service dept manager, my brake pads are going to be replaced FOC!

I'll let everyone know how the new pads work out.

My car has also done over 9000 miles and the brakes have squeaked for a while now. Must say it is increasingly annoying when you cruise along and then go to stop and hear SCCRREEEETTTCHHHHHH from the brakes.

I would be interested to hear how long they needed your car for as I am thinking of mentioning this to my local dealer.

Yeah, how annoying! ours has done the squealy brake thing virtually from day one. Was thinking of taking the calipers off giving them a good clean and copper grease on the backs of the pads on the weekend. Hopefully that will sort it, the squeaking is normally caused by dust build up and or vibration.

Damn it, it's happened again!

The car's going just fine, then someone discovers a new problem and mine comes out in sympathy. Just got to work this morning and the brakes screeched as I pulled into my slot in the carpark.

My brakes were 'mended' by Peugeot and lasted about an hour before they began to squeak again.
They say that it is a problem with this type of brakes since asbestos was removed from their manufacture (this may or may not be true but seems a little strange and can't say I've noticed it driving other cars)
They are now going to change my pads but can't guarantee they won't start squeeking again. Does this mean I have to have new brake pads every 4 or 5 K miles ??????? P.S. This is the last Peugeot I will be buying

Don't give up yet...
My brakes started squeeking at around 600 miles (at low speeds), and got progressively worse. The dealer stripped, cleaned, lubricated (the brakes) - didn't actually replace anything - and they've been fine since (now done 3,000 miles).

OMG - heard my brakes squeeking for the first time yesterday.

Wondered if it's always been there and I'm only now listening out for it?

Maybe i've contracted a form of automotive hypochondria - uugh, Freedive, where's that doctor.

Interested to see all your comments about squeaky brakes. Mine has just gone in for its 6000 warranty check and I mentioned the squeaky brakes.

Now I'm told one of the brake pads is faulty and a bit of it has dropped of. They say it is poor/dodgy material in manufacture. The car is not safe to drive!! Its now off the road and will be for the next 2 weeks while they take this up with peugeot and get new brake pads!

Beware if you have squeaky brakes they might not be as innocent as they seem!

Just when the sun started shining too!

Yet another problem that my dealer's cured! Took my car in for its 6000 mile service and complained about the squeaky brakes. They took the pads off and rounded off the edges (can't remember the technical term!) They're now back to being silent

Hi Rachel
How long did this take the dealer to do?
I am very hesitant to take my car into the garage as I usually insist on waiting when any work has been carried out.
(That way I can make sure they don't pick my car to go get their lunch from Macdonalds!)
My brakes are squeaking and have been for a while.
Should I tempt fate by taking it to the zoo for the monkeys to play with?

I took it in for the 6,000 mile service, they did that, downloaded the latest software, did the front brake pads and road tested it while I waited. I think it took two hours, I was well catered for with hot drinks and car magazines!!

Suppose it depends how good your garage are, I was amazed when they cured mine after the lack of success other people have had. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Had the same problem with my good old Alfa...

Here's the story for everybody who missed.
For some reason the use of asbest has been prohibited so another material is used for the brakepads. A brakepad could have inclusions resulting in some hard (rubbery) pieces. And those tiny piece will squeeck...
Secondary result is decrease in braking action cause no material matches asbest yet.

That's it. Somehow series of pugs have the problem. But I believe the quality of the pads is the same as the paintwork.
(My dealer now use a different brand, better quality)

Remembers me of the story of an old peugeot with an anoying sound. They couldn't find a solution.
After 7 years the car got in a crash....
The repairer found some beercans...
Tracking back the car the productiondate had something in common with the day they celebrate carnaval..... ;)

As my dealer says (confidential of course)
If your car is made in the morning...you'll miss a few screws (caused by a hangover)
After coffee they'll be OKE
The average French drinks a bottle a wine during lunch.
So if your car is made after lunch you're in for a real treat.
