I've a manual transmission CC so I normally use the hand brake to hold the car when starting on a slope. But I find the back of the car rises quite a bit and have to wait for it to come down before the car can start off. The dealer says this is due to some kind of "floating" suspension system which contributes superb manoeuvrability in corners. Does anyone know if this is true??

I park nose in on a sloping drive each day. Don't know about the technical side, but my Pug does seem to lift only a little like any other car when the handbreak is applied (but then I reckon my handbreak cable could do with adjusting a notch or two as it doesn't hold well on steep hills).

I don't notice my car lowering itself directly afterwards, not until the handbreak is released anyway. Mine's also a manual.

Love to know where the dealer gets his "superb manouverability" comment from as compared to other cabs, my Pug does tend to lean/roll a bit too much round bends due to the higher ride and slightly softer suspension settings I suppose.

Come to think of it a hill holder like some Subaru has would be nice, it holds the car a few seconds when starting on a slope.

I parked mine on a hill at my sisters and a passer by had to stop it after it rolled past him very slowly! I took it to the dealer and he tightened the hand brake but I don't leave it on hills any more and I was very lucky there wasn't a car in front of mine when it started rolling!!

Know the exact feeling Parky - I was alarmed the 1st time I applied the handbreak on a hill in traffic and slid back - annoying as this now requires clutch control and probably a worn clutch.

I always park with the gear lever engaged anyway.

If the car is facing uphill the back does rise significantly with the handbrake on and then drops when released but I don't know why.

I would also agree that the handbrake could be better as it does not hold too well unless pulled up hard.

I always leave in gear when parked on a slope.

I was very lucky although I went from an all time low thinking the car was stolen to being high as a kite as I saw it wedged with bricks at the bottom of the hill!!! Dropped the guy a crate of lager for his trouble!
