Its losing its memory! its a Y plate (so pre multiplex as far as i know - only has one hazard button). Its a Panasonic head unit. Plugged ISO straight into leads. Could it be that I just have to swap the permanent and ignition cabels round? And is this a common problem?

Cheers

If it's pre-multiplex then it's likely that the permanent & ignition wires are just round the wrong way as you say. All my Pugs seem to be the same - if you can swap them on your Panasonic ISO connector then just do that (my Kenwood HU has the ability to swap these wires round - very useful!)

long time ago that i have been here :)

with the semi mux cars <2002 it will do but just switching around the wires the full mux cars is different again; if you just switch around the wires it will keep the memory, but when you turn off your ignition while your radio is on it will be on for another 5 min. (delayed switched 12v) and when you unlock the car it will come on by it self.
if it doesnt bother you just leave it like this then, but the BSI does record errors because it sees strange signals.
so of you wanna do it "right" get a adaptorcale 9706.86 from your dealer
