more horsepower, please help

hey i just received my 206 cc (it was my brother's). it's a 2.0 SE. the only 'mods' done are 17' alloys, goodyear's eagle f1s and something on the brakes from the 206 wrc, not really quite sure what it is, and my brother isn't really keen on explaining me since he doesn't want me to push them to the limit

i was wondering if someone can give me hints and sugestions on what to do to get more power. by more power i mean stuff like aceleration and / or top speed.
i was thinking on changing the gear ratio.. really not sure if it is possible, but on city driving the car loses a bit because in my opinion the 1st gear is too short so it looses a little bit.
if your sugestion includes parts, etc please tell me where i can order them and relevant stuff like aprox price, etc. i have a friend who prepares cars and stuff like that and he will be glad to help me setting up everything but i really need those sugestions on the best ways to get it going

nobody answering? i'm thinking about spending about 600 Â£.. things in my country should be somewhat cheaper then in the UK don't really know. what are my options?

a air filter and larger bore exhaust should release a few more horsepower for starters

not sure and which makes and prices are available or which ones are the best

hopefully someone should be able to point ya in the right direction
