After a long long wait since first seeing the concept car at the NEC (1997 /8 i think), we finally picked up our 206 cc S on 29th March after 8 weeks wait from order.
After being very worried by many of the reports on this forum, I am pleased to say that the car has exceeded all of our expectations. The handling is amazing, the performance is really good for a 1.6 and everything is just perfect. It completely destroys things like MX5's with its blend of practicality and style.
So far in 2 weeks and 700 miles nothing has gone wrong, the dealer was fantastic and the car's returning 38 mpg (multiplex model with trip computer.)
The windows do creak a little, but if you chop the roof off, there's a chance that they will - Peugeot use a non silicone grease, (I'll post the part number) which I have used once and the car is noise free.
The Multiplex does slow up the horn and lights, but its Ok.
To all those who are concerned, as I was - don't panic - all things mechanical can and do go wrong - but the cars (when working well) are really superb and well worth trying !.
I look forward to meeting up a Drayton.
Antoni
What a fantastic little car !!

gmjones,
going by memory it's about 34/35mpg approx. since i got my replacement nearly 4 weeks ago i am averaging 31.7mpg with nearly 1300 miles.
the 31.7mpg is because i have been nice to the car
my last CC only gave around 29mpg but then again i wasn't as nice to that one

Is that "real" mpg or "multiplex" mpg? I'm not too sure I believe my multiplex readout - when the car is stopped it pulls the average down really quickly, and when cruising on the motorway it tells me I'm getting 36mpg even though I know it's nearer 30 when it comes to filling up properly (I have the 2.0 engine).
Also, although it's nice to see the readout at 999.9 when you're going downhill with your foot off the pedals I'm yet to be convinced...

sad thing to do but i have just worked out the approximate mpg since i got the replacement on 20/3/01.
the trip computer reading is 31.7mpg and my approximate calculation going by cost is 31.5mpg so i would say the trip computer is 100% accurate.

I've done over 8,000 miles in my SE, so far. Most of it is fairly steady motorway driving at 70 to 80 mph.
I've kept a record of how much petrol has gone into it and these days I'm getting a fraction under 30 mpg. If I drive carefully for a few days (i.e. stay under 65 mph and avoid hard acceleration) I can get it over 30 mpg after a while but it's a struggle.

Re fuel economy, the MPG as per the trip is comparable to the actual, also trip in my 406 over 70,000 miles has been spot on (have to do returns for business).
The 206 does 50 miles a day, 40 on motorway at 70 to 80 mph, with nearly 30 mins in traffic at Junction 15 on the M40.
Some local cruising around in the evenings finishes of the journeys.
Average speed shown is typically 34 mph.
We knew the 1.6 was going to be down on performance, but we'd heard terrible things about the 2.0 ltr fuel economy (i.e.not much better than 30 mpg average), especially when pushed - could'nt cope with this after the 306 Dturbo.
For info - I had a 2.0ltr petrol 406 for a while, no better than 27 MPG.
Regards
