Got back late Friday afternoon, from holiday to Spain in my 206cc.
A round trip of 2211 miles.
How did the cc perform…..
Cruised down through France into Spain (motorway all the way except for the last bit) at 130Kph.
A word of caution to anyone travelling through France – If you are caught speeding, it is no longer just a fixed penalty fine of ninety euros, they now take your licence away. So if you are not accompanied by a second driver, the car stays at the gendarmerie until it can be recovered.
Average fuel consumption on the motorway @ 130 Kph was 34 Mpg & using normal unleaded (95 oct) or super (98 oct) didn’t seem to make any difference!
Got waved at by a couple in a Dutch silver cc with a very neat little spoiler near Lyon. They shot passed us top down at about 150 Kph. Our boot was full, so it was top up all the way.
However we didn’t see many CC’s in France or Spain, the only ones we did see were silver or black & one in a yuck dark green.
In Spain, at every opportunity we went topless, except in the afternoon when my husband complained about the sun beating down on his coconut. But in the evening it was luxury being able to drive around with the top down. But I must admit I could really do with one of those wind stoppers behind the seats, as it feels as if you are going at a 100 Mph when you’re only doing 40. And the hairdo doesn’t look to impressive when you walk into the restaurant for dinner.
The highlight of the holiday was parking up down at the beach at midnight with the top down, seats reclined, music on, watching the shooting stars on a gin clear night.
The only niggling thing with the cc was, that the speed limit in the camp site was 5 Kph & my cc has this lumpy idling problem which would not allow the car to roll along smoothly.
On the day we left Spain my husband decided to top the tank right up, which required about 5 litres, Biggles (as I call my car) thru a little wobbly and decided that it would not allow the trip computer to reset & the fuel quantity gauge remained at ¾. It all sorted itself out at the next refuel stop.
Just before we got to our night stop at Limoges France, the heavens opened up “Monsoonâ€

Hi Maria!
Welcome home!
Sounds like you had a great time and the cc performed well. I only saw 3 cc's when I was in Spain back in June and one of those was a RHD with British plates! I love the m/ways in Spain too..practically empty where I was, but guess busier now due to hols season.
I'd definitely advocate getting a windstop.
Ahh..beach at night and stars...I'm envious now!
You didn't get caught for speeding did you?! Just wondered from what you wrote about the penalty...

Hi Ali / Bif,
Didn’t get caught speeding, got the information about licence being taken away from the Autoroute info 107.7 broadcast every 20 mins in English.
By the way anyone driving down to Spain will require a Hi Viz vest to hand in the car, this became law last month.
With the roof up, there is loads of space in the boot. In fact for the last part of the trip from the motorway to the coast on the A roads we moved just the overnight bags on to the back seats & cruised in top down.
I've got a nice picture of the car down at the beach where we would always park, where can I post it for you to see?
