Sorry this is not specifically a CC question.
My Petrol 1.4 year 2000 206 GLX left hand indicator keeps coming on of its own accord.

Can anyone tell me
-what components are involved in the indicator system (e.g. are there any electronics/black boxes)

- what the most likely cause will be.

The peugeot dealer has suggested that I pay £180 for a new indicator stalk to be fitted - but I hardly want to do this if this is just a guess.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Kurt
If buying a CC is not an option you could go down the following route.

1 Buy an indicator stalk from a breakers yard and fit that , they are easy enough to fit as long as you have a screwdriver and limited intelligence, might cost you £20 if you take it off the car yourself (that way you can see how it comes apart without buggering up your own car!

2 Check the wires that run to the stalk to make sure they are not loose and shorting out (causing the light to come on)

3 and probably the safest, go to an auto electrician and get them to investigate and rectify the problem, electrics are a bitch! :?

Changes are the dealer knows there is a popular problem with the stalk which is why he is reccomending you have it replaced, why not take it to another dealers and see what they suggest - the world is not short of Peugeot dealers!!

I reckon your best route though is to trade in your GLX deathtrap for a nice second hand CC and become a fanny magnet, sex god and all around nice bloke!

Hope this is of some use

Thanks for your reply. A CC does sound nice I must admit ;)

The problem I have is that the two upward running screws which hold the sterring-wheel switch covers together are not standard screws - they appear to be star-shaped.

Does anyone know what type of screwdriver I need to get to get the cover off?

In fact, am I right in assuming these two screws need to come outto get the covers off. Peugeot won't tell me - they want to do it

All suggestions gratefully recieved.
Thanks.

Hi
The screws you are talking about are TORX bits which manufacturers use to make assembly quickers for machinary and also to stop us messing with.
Halfords sells Torx bits and torx screwdrivers, nip into you local edge of town store and ask someone to help you find the right size.... Last time I did that they lent me the tool to check the size before I bought it.
:P
Good luck

hia.
the prob you have is a comm2000(indicator stalk.)its a very well known fault.
the box behind the steering wheel is a ecu. if you are swapping it for a second hand one you need to be sure its from the same spec vehicle .as it controls the air bag, transponder ,esp and loads of other things that people dont realize.it dosent just act as a wash wipe stalk and indicator stalk.
the system is multiplexed. and the torxs you need is a T20 to remove the cowling.
you will also need to remove the air bag and steering wheel.
just be very careful as things can go pearshaped very quickly.
any probs just email me
martinlhill4@hotmail.com

ill talk you thrugh it if you like. :D
hope this helps.....

Just an acknowledgement to thank those who have replied. I appreciate it. The current status is that I have spent a fiver on some Torx allen keys, removed the indicator stalk and sprayed it with WD40 and refitted it (and Peugeot wanted £30 to do this ?) and for the moment the fault has gone.

I will see how things pan out, but I may need to get a replacement.

Does anyone know if there are any manufactureres or suppliers who sell clone parts for Peugeots or do I have to stump up £150 for a new indicator stalk.

Thanks again - you people are the dogs nuts.

2000 Year Multiplexed? Might not be and depends on the build date..?

You could be lucky and have a non multiplexed vehicle..

Identical problem to a friend's older 206 - COM2000 is the problem and getting Pug to replace it costs £300 or so.

My friend is a bit of an electronics nut... so spent about £50 on a PIC programmer and built his own circuit to control the indicator!!! Works fine, just passed its MOT :)

where are all these high prices coming from????
a normal comm on a full mux 206 is only about 160 +vat.

all the 206s are multiplex ,its just the early ones were only semi multi plexed.still ran through a bsi(light)

Hi may have one going spare if you require it. I was going to keep it as spare, seen as it is a common problem. :)

Send me a PM if you are interested.

cheers
