New 'clunk' noise when braking

Another new one for me - every maybe fourth or fifth time I brake, I hear what can only be described as a clunk sound. The car spent another week in the garage but Peugeot said the three people who drove it when it was in heard nothing unusual (everyone I drive in it with hears it). Anyone else heard strange brake clunks (and of course I still get the regular squeeks as well)

When i had a rattle in the boot, i took the head engineer out for a ride so he could hear it for himself. Maybe worth doing for this brake, especailly if its a regular occurance. Then at least they can't fob you off.

Funny how monkeys can never observe our problems! Are they blind or deaf?
Our 1st problem with our ex CC was oil dripping off the gearbox casing after 1000 miles/2 months.
Took it to Camdens of Bedford who called back to say 'We have your car up on the ramp and can't see anything'....... or so the monkey told the service counter guy. He went out and found it straight away!
Anyway, relating to the post subject, I experienced clonks on braking on two Vauxhall Belmonts I had. If I remember rightly, there was some slack with the pads in the calipers. They were able to move forward and back.
Reverse back, brake, clonk. Pull forward, brake, clonk. The sound was only there the 1st time you broke in either direction.
After all this, probably just a monkey left a wrench in the engine bay!

Similar problem experienced but noise like a clunk and groaning when pulling away and after applying brakes. Garage originally said it was the brake calipers and had the car in and under warranty replaced the calipers. Gave it about three weeks and the noise was no better, in fact, was worse. Took the car back again and went for a test drive with the "squeaks and rattles" expert. As soon as we moved off he could hear the noise and we went slowly round the roads adjacent to the dealership. He decided it was something to do with the suspension - rear end. They had the car for the day and when they picked me up from home later said the problem was the bushes on the rear axle were disintegrating!! Their answer is apparently to replace the whole of the rear axle assembly. Before they do that they have to get clearance from Peugeot as they had previous misdiagnosed the noise as the brake calipers! Still awaiting a deicision from Peugeot. The Service guy said he would be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced similar problems as apparently the axle/suspension//rear end assembly is a common part for Citroen cars as well
