Smell of Burning

When my car has been running for about 5 or 10 minutes I get a very definite burning smell. It only lasts for a few seconds and is more noticeable when the window is open. Most of my trips are short so I usually only get the smell once. On longer trips I've experienced repeats. My local Peugeot dealer could find nothing wrong, and couldn't even detect a smell, but it does occur because my husband has also experienced it. I've now had this smell for about a year and am thinking of getting rid of the vehicle, which has only done 6000miles in 4 years. The coil was replaced about 10 months ago, but that made no difference. Has any body got any ideas as to what could be the problem?

Ive had it occasionally... only when the engine is working harder than usual... not really been bothered about it.
