Tesco online was the cheapest I found. About £575 and my girlfriend has points on her licence as well as several claims (!) ... in our other car I hasten to add!

But the cover's not fantastic. No courtesy car if you crash, plus if you write the car off in its first year they won't replace it with a new one

good point rachel.

i never take cover where a courtesy car is not guaranteed. tesco/direct line insurance are the same and they will not guarantee one and say they are subject to availability but it's very common not to get one if you are at fault.

it may sometimes cost more but if you need daily use of a car then make sure a courtesy car is guaranteed.

consider the fact that you maybe saved £50 on insurance but then paid £500 to hire a not so attractive nissan micra for 4 weeks (maybe more)

After having two accidents I realised how crucial having a courtesy car is, luckily had one on my policy at the time. Now I insist on it.

two accidents ? - so its true what they say about woman drivers then

i've been lucky (touch wood - my head probably) and haven't had an accident since Nov 93 although the one i had that month and 15 months before it were far from minor

every seen a nissan bluebird convertible before ? the taxi i hit 17 days after my test became one when they cut the roof off

I had a bad three months, two crashes in that time - only one was my fault. Sod's law that in ten years of driving I only had one fault claim and I decided to save money by not protecting my no claims. Doh! Another lesson learned.

My Tesco policy does give a new car in return for a write-off during the first year.
