Tempermental Key Fob & Lost the radio signal... Puzzled..

Post by EarthMummy »

Hello everyone!
Hope you're all keeping well!

So, my friends 206cc has a few more teething issues (only a slight few!)

Okay, first thing: Tempermental Key Fob.
On first appearance it appears the battery has failed.
It's a 2 key fob type, big chrome lion on one side, on the other you've got the lock button at the top (which also deadlocks it) and the bottom smaller button unlocks it.

I've got 2 of these keys for my same year (52) 406 and mine came apart (to steal a battery for her) quite easily, pulled it apart where it hooks onto a key ring..
Hers? Err not so easily.. It came apart for about 2mm then it just wouldn't separate. Anyhow, I gave up, closed the key back up, pressed the button to make sure I had the dead key (I'd tried that before I even looked at the keys and knew 100% that was the dead key) anyhow, pressed the button and it worked... a minute or so later, again it wouldn't work... again repeated the process as above and it worked again (still working now)

Any ideas as to what happened to the key and why it's miraculously repaired itself?

Ok, problem 2: Lost the radio signal:
When we picked the car up last week the radio worked absolutely perfectly until a day later in the week last week when all of a sudden it's lost signal.
I've checked the obvious things, looked at the aerial connection behind the head unit which appears to be well in there and not worked lose (I thought perhaps due to the severe knocking on the front end it may have come out - which makes no sense as it is still picking up Radio 2) Anyway, that looked fine.
Looked on the aerial outside the car and with mine it screws off and out - hers, well STUCK isn't the word! I was going to get my mole grips and try that....

Any ideas guys?

Help greatly appreciated....... :rotfl:

EDIT: Friend is now threatening to force me to listen to her One Direction CD until I get the radio sorted so please guys and girls - help me asap!

1. Key may have got out of sync with car and then trying a few times re-sync'd ... guessing as my Alfa can do that ...

2. If it's picking up R2 aerial must be connected ... or you wouldn't get anything ... not in a poor signal area? What type of radio is it? If it's a '52 as you say it should have the display-less unit ... rectangular and display if via the top of the dash?

Absolutely correct..... It doesn't have a display... though comes up in the trip calculator etc

It's fussy when it picks up radio 2...
But yeah.. I see the point!
In a good area for signal, my car (406) picks up all the radio stations well... as did her car when we first bought it! It's not picking up anything, classic Fm, Heart, Radio 1 etc.. nothing but sometimes picks up R2
Absolutely baffled me! Even thinking of fuses, if it was a fuse then the whole thing wouldn't be working....

Thanks for your help!

Could be that the keyfob battery is on its way out - you know how you can get a bit of extra life out of them by sticking them on a radiator? Well it could be that the heat from your hand was just enough to coax it back, but it's not long for this world. Or it could just be a bit of corrosion on the terminals and disturbing them cut through it.

The aerial is bolted in from the inside, you access it via the courtesy light. If you follow this link it tells you how: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12301&p=106607#p106601
