coolant temperature too high warning

Post by Karlos_junior »

Warning came on this morning in cold frosty (minus 2 Celsius)
stopped, pulled over. Car off, turn on car, no problem.
I didn't notice any bounce on temp gauge or anything. Coolant levels good.

Is this likely to be a sensor? no way car was to hot. when I turned car back on temp was v low. i.e cold.

(my searching a came up with this happen in heat and at idle stuck in traffic which doesn't apply here)
Cheers in advance.
Karl

When requesting help of a technical nature, please give as much detail of the fault as possible along with details of exact model, engine size & type, gearbox, year, mileage, and any relevant work carried out to try to solve the problem to help us help you.
Better still, put the details in your signature.

Thanks Karl, at least we know its a Peugeot 206 hatchback now. Is it the single OHC or the double OHC engine?

If someone on here has experienced your symptoms then no doubt they will chip in with their suggestions. We cater here specifically for the 206cc owner. The 1.6 206cc petrol engine is the DOHC in our cars.

From your description I would suspect a faulty temperature gauge/sensor but I wouldn't rule out a battery at the end of its life. When it is frosty here in the UK spurious warning signals are often an indication that the car's battery is beginning to fail. How old is your battery?

Furthermore, when your timing belt was renewed was the water pump renewed at the same time in line with best practice? That could rule out circulatory issues.
