Anyone remember the days when London buses had the 10p fare on a Sunday? 10p to go whereever you wanted. You could explore your own city. It was a huge success. So much so, that there wasn't a car on the roads on a Sunday. Perfect for us drivers
Anyway, it was banned cos of some political thinking somewhere. Maybe there gatso camera revenue was cut by 1/7th? Oh no, it was in the pre-gatso days. Mid 80s. I was a toddler - honest.

I was in Hong Kong for a week at the beginning of the year. Their underground system is unbelievable for someone used to the tube.
For a start, they run on time & they're clean. There's an electronic map that shows where you are and which way you're going. There's indicators that tell you which side the doors will open when it stops. There's no seperate carriages - on an empty train you could run from one end to the other. Oh, and it costs next to nothing.

Can I just add one point ---
MOBILE PHONE USERS!!!!!!!
Forget speed, this is the biggest bunch of tw*ts on the road. Sorry if I offend anyone who has a mobile but anyone who uses one whilst driving needs shooting. How can anyone say they are in complete control of a car at the same time as holding a phone to an ear and being imersed in a conversation at the same time. I have lost count of the amount of people I have had to break for as they pull out of a junction having not looked both ways and talking on the phone. Think about it, you have a phone in your right hand, looking left is OK but try looking right PROPERLY....
How many people struggle to change gear and talk at the same time?
The sooner its illegal the better.
Sorry for going on but it really t*t's me off when people say that doing 90 on a near empty motorway is a hanging offence as they discuss where they are going out at the weekend with their mates on the phone as they drive though a busy street and yes possibly a school!
PS I am another exiled scouser (Birkenhead)
Pheew, i'd better go and have a cold shower now!

Good point.
I find that cruising at 75 to 80 mph is much more economical than cruising at 65-70. When I was in France/Belgium I spent most of my time on Autoroutes and managed a staggering 49 MPG compared to 38-40 over on the motorways here. Surely theres something amiss here

it sucks thats for shure, provides jobs for computor programers ,,,,,
funy thing is they are iligal as autority didn't ask for a reasouse consent to build strakture on roadreserve,so you have option to go to court and if everyone went it would be 10 years before they get to majority speedsters
or remember where they are and slow down, like me,,,,,

Talking on a mobile is already illegal here while driving, if you're holding it in your hand. There has been talk about banning it altogether as there was a recent study which found that people using hands-free were even more likely to have an accident (not sure why).
As for speeding, for the last few years we have had a very active advertising campaign here full of horrifically graphic images of people being smashed up due to speed. And I see plenty of smashed up people with my own eyes all the time at work. Sure some people are good enough drivers to control a car in trouble at speed but your average person is not. Sorry to sound like a mother
but it's just as dangerous.
