at the end of the day - when they decided to be firemen they knew what the wages were - if they didn't like the wages then they should have chose a different job/career.

I also agree with derek. its like they are holing us all to ransom. they know we cant do without them. in my eyes its blackmail. imagine pug sent us all invoices charging extra for ours cars when we all agreed a certain price. its the same sort of thing.

i see ambulance drivers want a rise too now - although at 5% at least they are being a bit more realistic and live in the real world.

But that's the point Pauline - while the firemen continue to hold us to ransom, the crew that pitch up (eventually) will consist of a couple of RAF Admin clerks, a Supplier, a University educated (dimwitted) Officer, an HGV driver and a couple of Army Infantrymen who have completed 3 DAYS training on outdated equipment...I for one would be VERY worried...

So do you think 24k is enough? (I'm not being funny here, honest, just asking a question) (and glad that we can discuss this openly without anyone getting stroppy... cos we're a nice bunch :) )

Anyway, maybe it's because I've had the misfortune to have lived and worked in London for years that I feel 24k is not enough for what they do, when train drivers get 30k plus a year for pointing trains down tunnels. It's not the 40% that bothers me, I just thing they should be brought in line with train drivers. Who does the toughest job?

Then of course, start factoring in ... plod, HM armed forces, ambulances, nurses, docs, teachers and anyone else I've missed etc etc etc. And what do they earn in London?

Hmmmmmm... Maybe it's the tube drivers earning TOO MUCH? They've got an effectove union and, when the tube stirkes, don't we know all about it for a 50 mile radius.

Sorry, over and out! nuff said you all groan...
