Sorry I forgot to answer your other question about where to put a spare. Some of us have bought a space saver spare and sacrificed some boot space. It just depends how strongly you feel about having no spare.

You dont need a legal spare to pass an MOT. Just if you have one it must be legal.
I'm not 100% sure on that, actually. AFAIK, only wheels fitted to the car must be legal. Otherwise, if you shredded a tyre, you'd have to leave the old wheel where it was in case you were pulled over.

Youve got a point there Alex, but I understood the thought behind the law was that if you are carrying a spare you intend to use it so it must be legal. What happens of a stone hits your windscreen and cracks it, are you supposed to stop immediately, or a light bulb fails means you have to pull onto the hard shoulder coz its an MOT failure. :?:

Sorry, I didn't mean to start an arguement! Thanks for the tip about the space for a spare.

Spare tyres are not inspected during an MOT Test. The MOT only tests the roadworthiness of a car. A dodgy spare wheel doesn't make it any less roadworthy. An MOT, remember, is also no guarantee of mechanical condition.

Although it's not an MOT fail, I'm still not sure whether there's any legislation requiring a spare tyre to be 'legal'.

:D

Like I said - it's not an MOT requirement, but I could be wrong about it being a legal requirement.

garnett,

i believe the 15" spacesaver is suitable for the nimrods - others have bought one but it can sometimes take time to get the tyre for some reason.

also to briefly summarise the other replies .....

it isn't a legal requirement to carry a spare but if you do it must meet the legal requirements, e.g. minimum tread.

also peugeot like a few other manufacturers wouldn't release a car which was effectively illegal if it didn't have a spare - even if they are monkeys :D

a space saver is just that, it's about half the width of a normal tyre and can only be run upto 60mph ( i could be wrong) plus it's on a steel wheel not alloy.

hope this helps :d

How do you stow it? Is there a way of attaching it or does it just roll around :(

Use bungees (or straps) to secure it to the 4 hoops in the boot.
