UPDATE:

THIS RECALL COULD EFFECT ALL RIGHT HAND DRIVE 206's, INCLUDING THE CC built up to Feb 2002..
This is NOT Just a Coventry productionbased problem as stated in the national press.. My CC is affected and will be modified this week..

All dealers have been supplied with parts and can carry out the procedure NOW...

This is the official Peugeot Document: You will need to quote the last 8 digits of Ur VIN number starting with 4*******

SAFETY RECALL FOR PEUGEOT RIGHT HAND DRIVE 206 MODELS
CODE: X3K
Code Description of Incident
X3K It is necessary to exchange the two clevis pins on the brake
pedal system to avoid any risk of loss of braking. Peugeot Motor Company have
experienced a limited number of incidents where one of the pins
has not been locked properly during fitting.

A dedicated 206 Recall Helpline - 0845 60 206 206 has been set up BY PEUGEOT to deal with customer enquiries.

The helpline opening hours are as follows: Mon – Fri : 8.00 – 20.00

Not a surprise

But in summary:

Peugeot has determined that there is a fault with the brake pedal clevis pin retaining clip(Fitted at the top of the brake pedal). This pin wears in normal use and eventually the clip falls off, the pin drops out and the result being Total brake failure. This campaign will be released to the general public on the 24/11/2003 and will effect EVERY 206 made to date, with the exception of the last months build. All dealers will carry out this repair while you wait, it will take about half an hour to do, and no Peugeot agent is allowed to refuse any 206 owner from having the recall done there and then.

I have just spoken with Peugeot and this is True..

The dealers will be furnished with further information on Monday/Tuesday.
They obviously are having to sort out spares to cover all the Dealers in UK and elsewhere..

It will be done as a half hour while you wait service.. But don't rush down expecting it for a few weeks in reality..

i called my dealer about 8:30 this am, and got my car booked in for this coming weds to get it done. i have had it from new. but i wouldn't necessarily hold my breath for the letter, if it concerns so many 206s, it'd be quite a job for peugeot to get all the letters out quicksticks :|

I heard it was only for all 206's built in Coventry. Seeing as CC's are built abroad, i thought we were okay. But i could be wrong :?

Went in to hassle Athelston (Cirencester Pug) on unrelated cc business

They confirmed that at least all pre-2000 206's will need to have this clip replaced, otherwise the brake pedal literally drops off. They thought my late 2002 cc was probably not included in this recall.

Athelston said that they are going to be very busy dealing with at least 7 cars a day!

this was posted by someone at pgac ..............

PEUGEOT 206's IN BRAKE ALERT
Peugeot is recalling 270,000 (theres ur answer Dave) british built 206 models with defective brake pedals that could fall off. the fault was discovered after 13 cars suffered total brake failiure. a spokesman said letters will be sent out next week warning that a tiny metal pincould fail, alowing the pedal to detatch. but the chance of this actually happneing was "extraordinarily low". cars effected are those built at Ryton Coventry, from the start of production in 1998 to febuary 2002.

That excerpt was printed in one on the national papers yesterday..

It is not yet confirmed whether, these are UK only built cars or a worldwide problem..
It would only be UK car problem if the faulty part was supplied by a different company that supplied the french production facilities.. that is difficult to believe..

We will only really find out on Monday.. Either way it is a major problem for a lot of people..
