Thanks Rob,

Is there anything to choose between the Supagard and the Silver Seal or is it too soon to tell?

Yes thanks for that Rob, like Rachel, just a couple of extra points.

Does the Silverseal also come with that extra bottle of protection fluid that people are supposed to apply each month even though you seem to have no neeed to use it with the autoglymn product?

Am I right in saying that once you use Silver seal protection you only apply the one product, the Autoglymn shampoo conditioner on the car so no need to go through the labours of applying any further protection fluid afterwards or a further rinse off?

Can Autoglymn shampoo conditioner be bought from Halfords?

Cheers Robbie.

Auto Glym Buying?!?

it will explain how to get it LOTS CHEAPER.

Sure you wont mind saving a few pennies ready for your new motor.

I have had the following e-mail from Sue Jerham Marketing Manager at Autosmart (manufacturers of Silver Seal). she only aske dme to post a bit but the whole mail makes more sense and shows that they are an upfront company - which I like to see.

Hello Rob, How are you?

I noticed today quite a conversation on the web about the merits of Diamond Brite, Supaguard and Silver Seal and various questions on how to look after Silver Seal. I am the Marketing Manager at Autosmart (manufacturers of Silver Seal) and would like to post the below. Personally, I don't believe in trying to pretend I'm Joe Public or to just post without contacting the moderator. I would however be grateful if you would post the below within the thread "3 God Damn Hours". Hope this is ok with you.

Thanks
Sue Jerham

Hello thought you might like a bit more info "from the horse's mouth!" In response to Robbie, if your car is protected with Silver Seal, you do not need to apply a protection fluid at all. We are confident (and guarantee) that the product will last for 3 years.

In terms of washing the car, many dealers will give you a free bottle of Care n Clean neutral shampoo when your car is treated. However, any neutral car shampoo is fine and you certainly do not need to shell out £££££ for the Autoglym one.

Rachel asked if there is any difference between Supagard and Silver Seal. Supagard, Diamond Brite and Silver Seal, all use similar active materials. The difference between them is in the thickness of the protective coating. Before launching Silver Seal, we asked a university to carry out independent tests on Silver Seal plus Diamond Brite and Supagard. Silver Seal came out the best in the tests, but the other 2 products performed ok too. At the end of the day, they all come with a guarantee and providing you follow this you should be fine. The only other point is that the Diamond Brite guarantee is only valid for 6 years if you take your car back to the dealer every year and have it rechecked and the guarantee stamped. The Diamond Brite guarantee does state that the dealer may charge for this but I have no information on whether this does happen or not.

Hope this helps you. Sue Jerham

Rob, I now have urgent need for a local Silver Seal specialist, can you help with any more info on a list (Brighton area)?

Well my girlfriends beaten me to it and bought the new Mercedes C Class Coupe 2.2 CDI, Jasper blue with quartz leather as her company car. She picks it up first of June and needs the Silver Seal protection. I have no idea though of any local outlets. Can you help any further?

(Damn, I have to wait until September for my car. Perhaps if a smile enough she'll let me drive hers).

Well Rachel, I've got a little news on Diamond Brite.

My girlfriend spoke to them, the product has gone up in price to £295! (thats probably inclusive of VAT though - I paid only £230 all in last October!)

I was told that this was because the product had got better, it apparently now includes five new liquid products to put onto the car (instead of the previous three) not sure how many of them are recommended to have to put on the car each month though.

Well because we'll have two cars treated this year plus the cc the last, my girlfriend negotiated a fee of £230 inc VAT for her C Class Coupe. Not too bad a price considering the volume area of the car though it does have a glass roof.

Not yet sure if I'm going to go for it this time with the SLK though, hopefully Rob will also find out more about the other details when he gets the chance.

Sorry I didn't come back to you sooner - been off with the dreaded flu! In terms of finding out where to get a vehicle treated with Silver Seal, you can ring Autosmart on 01543 481616 and we can give you details of a local supplier.

RE: Price of Silver Seal, Diamond Brite et al. The prices vary hugely from dealership to dealership (and car marque to marque!). The average price is £199.

RE Diamond Brite new pack. - We haven't yet analysed the new pack from Diamond Brite. It may well be worth the extra money for the new products. It could also be a marketing ploy to get you to part with more cash and spend more time cleaning your car every month! With all these products, you should find that the basic treatment is enough to keep your car protected and that all you need to do afterwards is to wash your car with a good neutral shampoo and polish, if you really enjoy doing so.
