Is it possible to reserve plates that arent released yet?

You can not put a 55 plate on your car if your car is not a 55 model

To answer the question you can register interest with DVLA about plates which haven't been released yet - like i did with mine. they will phone/email/write to you when the plate is available.
bear in mind that if you do this, they know the plate is wanted - they stuck a £500 reserve on mine (and £500 at auction means about £750 on the car! my hammer price was £800 but the plate cost me £1100 in total
